Science was once Magic
When Science Was Still Called Magic
Once upon a time, what we now call “science” was simply known as magic.
Before laboratories and peer-reviewed journals, our ancestors observed the stars, worked with herbs, studied minerals, and set powerful intentions. Alchemy and astrology weren’t mystical sideshows—they were the first sciences.
Alchemy wasn’t just about turning base metals into gold; it was a metaphor for inner transformation. Astrology didn’t just map the sky—it helped people understand their place in the cosmos.
At the time, these practices were labeled supernatural—existing beyond what was known or measurable. But here’s the thing about the supernatural:
It often stays that way... until science catches up.
Power, Suppression & Gold
In 1404, King Henry IV of England passed the Act Against Multiplication, banning alchemical attempts to create gold.
Why? Not just because of superstition.
Because of control.
If ordinary people could transmute metal into gold, they could disrupt the economy—and shift power. Instead of celebrating possibility, those in power chose restriction.
Sound familiar?
This tug-of-war between curiosity and control shows up again and again in history—especially when humans dare to explore the unseen.
Science’s Saints… and Sinners?
Take Galileo Galilei, often called the father of modern science. He dared to suggest the Earth revolved around the sun. The Church disagreed.
In 1633, he was tried for heresy, forced to recant, and lived under house arrest until his death. Still, even while going blind, he wrote one of his most influential works:
Discourses and Mathematical Demonstrations Relating to Two New Sciences.
Centuries later, Albert Einstein—the father of modern physics—would introduce the theory of relativity, quantum entanglement, and the warping of time and space. At the time, it all sounded like science fiction. Too weird. Too magical.
And yet… it was real.
Spiritual Healing: Another Suppressed Science?
The same pattern appears in spiritual and Indigenous traditions.
Energy healing, folk medicine, and spiritual practices have long been dismissed or even criminalized.
In the U.S., Indigenous spiritual practices were illegal until the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978. That’s not ancient history—that’s within our parents’ or grandparents’ lifetime.
In both Europe and America, midwives, herbalists, and medicine women were labeled witches or criminals. And practices like yoga, once misunderstood and stigmatized, are now prescribed by leading institutions like Harvard and Johns Hopkins for pain relief, hormone balance, and stress reduction.
So what changed?
Not the practice.
Just perception.
And science finally catching up.
Magic or Science?
To some, science is just magic we’ve learned how to explain.
To others, spirituality holds the deeper truth—whether or not science validates it yet.
But here’s the beautiful truth:
You don’t have to choose.
Science is about measuring the unseen.
Spirituality is about trusting the unseen.
Both ask us to believe in forces we can’t fully see or touch—energy, gravity, time, intuition, consciousness.
Both have been persecuted.
And both, when used together, can create profound healing and understanding.
The Star Inside You
Modern science now confirms what Indigenous teachings have long whispered:
You are made of stardust.
Astrophysics shows us that every atom in your body was forged in the belly of a dying star.
Many Indigenous cultures say we are star beings—cosmic seeds birthed from the universe itself.
One uses telescopes.
The other uses story.
Both speak the same truth.
Let’s also remember—many of the greatest scientific minds in history were deeply spiritual:
Isaac Newton
Nikola Tesla
Galileo Galilei
Albert Einstein
These thinkers didn’t separate science and spirit. They saw one as the compass for the other.
Energy Healing: Future Science?
If you’ve ever received or practiced energy healing, you’ve felt it.
Something shifts. Something opens. You might not be able to explain it—but you know it’s real.
Right now, this might still be called woo. But one day, we may just call it physics.
Because energy is not a belief—it’s measurable. It’s real.
And the science of energy is already here:
Quantum mechanics
Electromagnetism
Nervous system regulation
We may not have a way to map the soul yet—but we're getting closer.
So Here’s What I Know…
History repeats.
The karmic wheel turns.
And each generation is given the chance to heal, to remember, and to reclaim what was once buried or banned.
You don’t have to choose between science and spirituality.
You’re allowed to believe in both.
I do.
Because at the end of the day, energy healing isn’t magic—it’s just a science we’re still learning how to understand.
With love & light,
Jeri
